A new favorite snack!

I discovered a new favorite snack for the kids….okay for me, but the kids love it too!  It’s healthy, easy, and yummy!  APPLE CHIPS!

Here are the directions to make these…

1.) Preheat oven to 225 degrees

2.) Wash whatever kind of apples you choose.  You really only need about 2 maybe 3 apples to make two trays of chips.  Then slice with a mandolin on #2 (you can do this by hand if you slice super thin).  You can leave the skin on.

3.  Put on parchment paper lined baking sheets.  You can leave them plain, sprinkle with cinnamon or a cinnamon sugar mixture.

4.  Bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on your oven, how crispy you want them and how thin you slice them.  Flip them half way through.  When they first come out they will still feel a little soft (not much though), but will get crispier the cooler they get.

5.  Eat up!

Relaxing Night

Today was just a relaxing day.   Not a whole lot planned for the afternoon or evening.  Just took it easy and spent time with the family.  Love those kind of days!  We were planning on some time at the park later this afternoon, but the thunder and rain didn’t agree, so we had to stay home.  We decided to do a little science project that had to do with liquids and solids.  So we made some good old gluep :)!  If you are interested in making it go to www.education.com and type gluep in the search bar.  It should lead you right to it.  It’s super easy and the kids love it.

After the kids went to bed my hubby was busy doing his thing so I decided that I would work on a new craft project.  I saw the idea to make marble magnets.   So I gave it a whirl.  It is a really simple craft and there are many websites on making marble magnets if you are interested.  I found a link at www.notmartha.org/tomake/marblemagnets/

All you need is some magazines, silicone glue (I’m sure there are other types of glue that work as well) and round magnets.  Here were my final results…

Well for some reason I’m still up when I should be in bed.  I know it won’t be too long until I have two boys jumping on me asking for breakfast.  My goal is to start to get to bed earlier, so if you see me on here again at this time feel free to yell at me :).

   Night!

Fishing for Words!

I don’t know about your kids, but mine love to do hands on things.  some days I just have to lay workbooks aside and do something interactive with them.  The other day we decided to go word fishing.  I found a couple verses in the Bible, wrote each word of the verses on index cards and attached string to a stick and then a magnet onto that.  We went fishing for words.  Each index card can have a paper clip or something that would attract a magnet.    I would tell him to search for a word and he would find it, putting the cards in order.    Afterwards we would read the Bible verse together.  That way he was learning to sound out certain words, but at the same time read Bible verses.  You can also do this with whatever words you are working on that week.

If you are looking for a fun snack here’s one that you can do with cheese, pretzels and grapes.  It looks like a campfire.  I found this idea on familyfun.go.com.    All you do is cut grapes in half for rocks, cut a fire shape out of cheese and fill in with pretzels.  The kids loved it!

Here we go…

I wasn’t sure whether to start blogging or not, but decided that I would give it a go.  God has put a lot on my heart and I have felt a need to share it with others.  I also just wanted to share a big part of my life with family and friends and other homeschool moms.

My husband and I have wanted to homeschool since…well  before I even became pregnant with our first baby.  It is something that we are passionate about!  I have enjoyed homeschooling so far and looking forward to all the homeschool adventures ahead!

We homeschool two boys so far and hope to have more children in the future.  There are so many reasons why we homeschool!  I can’t say that it hasn’t ever been a challenge, but the results are worth it!

We really want God to be glorified in our house and in all we do.  I want to strive to live each day to the fullest and to raise our boys in a godly Christian home.   Our family has been through many ups and downs, but with God as our foundation He has been there through it all!  I am blessed with the family I have and wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.

      So here we go!
